Another Day, Another Trump Rumor

Early on, trading in the stock market was rather uneventful, as the indices meandered around unchanged. Then, out of the blue, supposedly due to the Trump Jr. email disclosure, the market suffered a selling squall. I am skeptical that Donald Jr. was the actual reason, as I think the nature of the market structure is inherently illiquid (besides, negative Trump stories occur nearly hourly) and prone to lurching (and crashing too, eventually) but who knows. In any case, as of midday, when I had to leave, the market was about flat.

Away from stocks, green paper was mixed, although yen weakness appeared to be the focus in the currency arena. Oil gained 2%, fixed income gained a little, and the metals were somewhat jumpy, as gold was slightly higher (after having lost 0.5%) through midday, while silver led to the upside gaining 0.75%.

Just a Matter of Time Given the fact that I left at midday, there could have been a lot of changes in virtually every market, so please check the box scores to see what actually happened.
